Have you ever been injured? Did you ever experience the pain of cramped and sore muscles that wouldn’t go away, or gotten injured while playing your favorite sport? What have you done to treat it?

Athletes and sports enthusiasts experience sports related injuries in the course of training and while playing. The injuries come in all types of ways, causing a wide variety of pain and problems, but they all need treatment if you don’t want it to get worse. In daily life mobility and comfort is of paramount importance, the sooner treatment is applied to the injury, the faster the road to recovery.

Most sports related injuries require rehabilitation exercises as a vital part of the treatment. It is a slow step by step process, that continues until the injury has healed, and could go on longer to prevent a similar injury in the future. Stretching and exercises are done to improve mobility, strengthen the muscles and fix problems with tendons, bones and joints.

The most common sports related injuries that need therapy are:

Sprains

Ankles, knees and wrists of athletes and sports lovers are very prone to sprains. It’s an injury caused by trauma following a fall or blow to the body, knocking the joint out of its original position. People who suffer have a sprain feel moderate to severe pain, inflammation and the inability to move the joint.

• Strained Muscles

A strain is characterized by a twist, pull or tearing of a muscle or tendon. It is usually caused by overstretching or straining the muscle too far. Sharp pain is one of the first signs of strain.

• Knee injuries

A blow or twist to the knee while playing, sparring or jumping, is one of the common causes of knee injuries. However running long distances or too quickly without the proper warm-up exercises also cause knee injuries.

• Achilles tendon

Sports-Physiotherapy-for-Performance

Quick acceleration, which is common in sports such as football, track and field, and basketball are among the reasons why sports players experience injuries to their Achilles tendon. These injuries can range from being pulled, stretched or even snapped, and will take a long time to heal without proper care.

These above mentioned injuries require rehabilitation exercises, because the tissue can and will shrink making the injured area stiff and prone to injuries again. Regular stretching and exercises done with help from a trained professional must be done to avoid another injury and to heal properly.
