A disorder involving temporomandibular joint or TMJ can be very painful and can greatly affect any movement involving the mouth such as eating or talking. While this disorder may seem limited to the jaw, identification of the real cause can be complex and difficult. For the benefit of our patients, we have included in our TMJ assessments as part of our services.
Our specialist will be using their skills and knowledge in conducting the examination and evaluation of the condition. If necessary, we might have to recommend the use of other diagnostic methods such as x-rays or CT scan in order to get an accurate diagnosis. It may be possible that physical examination will be enough to pinpoint the real cause which may then allow our specialist to come up with a treatment. Options may include physical therapy, the use of devices, and counseling if emotional or psychological factors are linked to the disorder.
